Copyright & Licensing Policy

The Asian Journal of Information Science and Technology (AJIST), published by the Centre for Research and Innovation (CRI), follows a Gold Open Access publishing model. This policy explains copyright ownership, the Creative Commons licence applied to published articles, author reuse and repository rights, third-party permissions, and the copyright notice to be displayed on AJIST article webpages and published PDFs.

1. Copyright Ownership

Upon acceptance of a manuscript for publication in AJIST, the author(s), or other lawful copyright holder where applicable, must complete the AJIST Author Declaration and Copyright Transfer Agreement. By signing the agreement, the author(s) agree that copyright in the published Version of Record will transfer to the Centre for Research and Innovation (CRI) upon publication of the article.

Following transfer, CRI holds copyright in the published Version of Record and may publish, reproduce, distribute, archive, preserve, index, disseminate, license, and protect the article in accordance with AJIST policies.

2. Open Access Licence

All AJIST articles are made immediately and permanently available online under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International licence (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).

Under this licence, users may copy and redistribute the published article in any medium or format for non-commercial purposes, provided that appropriate credit is given, the original publication in AJIST is acknowledged, and the article is shared without modification.

The licence does not permit commercial use or the sharing or distribution of modified, adapted, translated, remixed, transformed, or derivative versions of the published work without additional permission from the copyright holder.

3. Required Copyright and Licence Notice

The required copyright and licence notice for the article landing page and published PDF of each AJIST article is:

© 2026 Centre for Research and Innovation (CRI). This is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/).

For articles published after 2026, the year in the copyright notice corresponds to the actual year of publication.

4. Author Rights and Scholarly Reuse

Authors retain the scholarly reuse and repository rights expressly permitted by AJIST policies. Authors may deposit the submitted manuscript, accepted manuscript, and published Version of Record in institutional, subject, or other appropriate scholarly repositories without an embargo, subject to the conditions stated below for the Version of Record.

  • The published article must remain unchanged.
  • The complete bibliographic citation and DOI or permanent link must be provided.
  • The CRI copyright notice must be retained.
  • The CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence must be clearly identified.
  • AJIST and CRI must be acknowledged as the original journal and publisher.

5. Version of Record Sharing

Authors and readers may share the published Version of Record for non-commercial purposes in accordance with the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence. The Version of Record must not be altered, adapted, translated, or otherwise modified for redistribution unless additional permission has been obtained from the copyright holder.

6. Third-Party Material and Permissions

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all material included in a manuscript is original or used with appropriate permission. Where copyrighted figures, tables, photographs, substantial text extracts, or other third-party material are reproduced, authors must obtain any necessary written permission before publication and provide appropriate acknowledgement to the original source.

Third-party material that is excluded from the article's Creative Commons licence must be clearly identified by an appropriate credit line or rights statement. Users wishing to reuse such material must obtain permission from the relevant copyright holder where required.

7. Author Declaration

The corresponding author, where authorised by all co-authors, confirms that the manuscript is original, all authors have approved the submission and final version, required permissions have been obtained, conflicts of interest and funding have been disclosed, ethical requirements have been met, and the signatory has authority to enter into the copyright agreement on behalf of the authors where applicable.

8. Digital Preservation and Archiving

AJIST supports long-term access to its published content through its digital preservation arrangements, including the PKP Preservation Network. Copyright and licence information remains associated with preserved and archived copies of the Version of Record.

9. Relationship with Other AJIST Policies

This Copyright and Licensing Policy operates together with the AJIST Open Access Policy, Repository Policy, Author Guidelines, Publication Ethics & Publication Malpractice Statement, and Author Declaration and Copyright Transfer Agreement.
